How is the admission average calculated?

(1) The minimum overall grade point average for admission to undergraduate university study programs organized by UVT cannot be lower than 6,00 (six), provided that none of the grades obtained in the competition tests is lower than 5,00 (five ).

(2) The general admission average is calculated to two decimal places, without rounding, according to the following formula:

					N = (max{N1,N2}+N3)/2

  • N1 is the general average in the baccalaureate exam
  • N2 is the highest of the grades obtained in the Mathematics test or the Computer Science test of the baccalaureate exam
  • N3 is the grade obtained in the written admission test in Mathematics or Computer Science. For candidates who did not take the written test in Mathematics or Computer Science at the baccalaureate exam, N2=4 is considered.

(3) The ranking of candidates is done in descending order of averages obtained at the entrance exam and within the limits of the approved places for each university study program.

(4) The overall average or overall scores obtained by candidates in the admission competition are valid for establishing the ranking only within the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, according to this regulation.

(5) The ranking resulting from the admission competition will also be used to distribute the places financed from the state budget, which will go to the best-ranked eligible candidates for each undergraduate university study program. The separation of candidates with equal averages, ranked last, is based on the N3 grade (the grade from the written test). If the equality remains, the separation is based on the N2 grade (the grade from the Mathematics or Computer Science test from the baccalaureate exam). If the equality remains in this situation, the separation is based on the N1 grade (the overall average from the baccalaureate exam).

(6) For Romanian candidates from all over the world, the calculation of the admission average (N) is done according to the formula:

					N = (N1+N2)/2

where N1 is the general average of the baccalaureate exam, and N2 is the highest of the grades obtained in the written test of Mathematics or the written test of Informatics in the baccalaureate exam. For candidates who did not take the written test in the subjects of Mathematics or Informatics in the baccalaureate exam, N2=4 is considered. All these grades are equivalent, by the FMI Admissions Committee, in the Romanian grading system.

If a candidate in this category has obtained, during his/her high school studies, one of the first, second, third prizes or a mention at the national phase of the mathematics or computer science Olympiad in his/her home country or Romania (prize justified by submitting the proving diploma in the application file), he/she will be equated with 10 (ten) admission average. The ranking of candidates ranked in the last/last places financed from the state budget with/without scholarship, with equal averages, is done based on the N2 grade, and if applicable, based on the average obtained in the Mathematics discipline during his/her high school studies.

How are grades equated?

(1) Students who have obtained distinctions (I, II, III prizes) during their high school studies at international school olympiads recognized by the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) and/or the first prize at national olympiads, financed by the Ministry of Education and Research, benefit from the right to enroll in UVT undergraduate university study programs without taking the admission competition, on places financed from the state budget if the school discipline in which the prize was obtained is one of the specialized disciplines relevant to the admission fields of Mathematics and Informatics (Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Information Technology, Robotics).

(2) High school graduates who obtained, during their high school studies, an individual award II, III or mention in National phase of the Mathematics or Computer Science Olympiads or of the Information Technology (programming section) or Robotics competitions funded by the Ministry of Education and Research, mentioned in Appendix 4 by the order of the minister for the approval of the competitions that will take place in the 2024-2025 school year, have the right to enroll in the fields of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, and the average from the admission exam is equivalent to a grade of 10 (ten).

Note: The Adolf Haimovici National Applied Mathematics Competition is assimilated to the Mathematics Olympiad.

(3) Candidates who obtained individual prizes I, II or III at county phases but by Olympics in the specialized disciplines relevant to the admission fields of Mathematics and Computer Science (Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Information Technology, Robotics), during high school, one of the grades included in the calculation of the admission average will be equivalent, upon request, to a grade of 10.

Note. The Adolf Haimovici National Applied Mathematics Competition is assimilated to the Mathematics Olympiad.

(4) Candidates who obtained, during high school, individual awards in competitions organized in the fields of Mathematics and Computer Science in collaboration with partners from the pre-university environment (IMF International Competition, Traian Lalescu Competition, Constantin Sălceanu National Physics Competition, BIOS National Competition) or in mathematics and computer science competitions organized by universities in the Universitaria consortium through their faculties (University of Bucharest, Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași) may, upon request, equate one of the grades included in the calculation of the admission average with a grade of 10, whichever it may be.

(5) Candidates who win team awards at national/international school competitions in specialized disciplines relevant to the fields of Mathematics and Informatics (Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Information Technology, Robotics), can equate one of the grades included in the calculation of the admission average, whatever it may be, with the grade obtained based on an interview and the evaluation of the personal portfolio with the results obtained during high school studies (based on the supporting documents uploaded on the admission platform). The portfolio assessment and interview will be planned and conducted before the admission exam, during the admission application submission period, by a committee established at the faculty level. The assessment grid for the interview and portfolio will be established by decision of the Faculty Council and published on the faculty website and the website www.admitere.uvt.ro.
